Episode 1 (Pilot): Agricultural Nutrition

Writer's picture: Kaylyn WadleyKaylyn Wadley

The introductory episode of the Organic Matters Podcast is a discussion with agriculturalist and sustainability expert Jackie Krikorian. Jacqueline has been working in sustainability and agroecology to understand the relationships between human health and the environment. With a background in food and agriculture, she has traveled the world, from the Arctic to the tropics, working alongside farmers, ranchers, fishers, and other food system workers to understand the challenges around nutrition and reliance upon a changing environment for their livelihoods. Jacqueline's work aims to re-center the environment and the intricate relationships of the plants, animals, and natural processes that nourish us in a new era of mass consumerism, quick health fixes, and media overload. She has engaged on local, national, and international levels to lobby for a food system that decentralizes power from large agribusiness and protects our precious soil. As a regenerative agriculturalist, she has studied the ties between pesticides and neurological disease, the importance of antioxidants, mitigating food waste, and the health benefits of eating organically-grown food. We got into the nitty-gritty of what happens with food production before the items reach your grocery stores and dinner table. We also discussed ways to incorporate and improve your diet by including organic foods, even on a budget.
